'Reality TV'

We watch a lot of 'TV'

Reality TV especially.

To live vicariously through someone else or just for the sheer juicy gossip 'fix'.

The trouble is this type of 'TV' makes up more that 60% of programming now . . . And True Plot and story is dying.

The trouble is almost ALL aspects of our LIVES have adopted this 'model', this pretense, this mockery, this deliberate deception that is paradoxically dubbed 'Reality'.

And we knew this . . . Right?

We knew this was a farce, pure entertainment . . . right?

It has invaded every aspect of daily life and now takes the form of our Politics and News . . . But STILL wears the past masks of Legitimacy and Fact . . . Truth.

We were unprepared . . . It seems . . . for the onslaught.

But we were being 'primed' for it. For decades.

And it has it's crowning achievement in the proliferation and swamping of all media with the 'Reality TV' phenomenon. No real worth or truth necessary for 'coverage': just the outrageous, vituperative and a truck load of breath taking bombast! Oh yeah: Ignorance is also a valuable ingredient.

And the formula took off.

Brilliant. New(but not really). Fresh.

The message is anyone can do it.

And it spread . . .

Enter 2008. One of many candidates for POTUS on one particular side . . . Saw that the mesh that was holding society together was deteriorating and sought to wake us up. Realizing the hapless national addiction to the 'new format' he was forced to use the 'new apparatus' to try and get at us from within.

And it seemed to work. His message was simple:

"Pay attention to how your country works, keep an eye and ear on those that 'say' they serve you . . .!"  

It appeared that we had finally 'woken up', kicked the addiction and were ready for the REAL 'Real'.

But we weren't 'Awake'. We 'fooled' Him:

He was simply the next, brightest and most intriguing 'Reality TV' installment . . . albeit the most intriguing one for decades but just a 'programming item' nontheless.  

But I think we kinda knew it was more than that though . . .

When most of 'us' failed so miserably at simply paying attention, as he said and we're inevitably fucked over we have heard the loudest 'Lamentations'.

Too much and complicated for 'little old you' right?

All you had to do was take your well honed discipline of following up on a story to a new level, take it 'outside' . . . Supplant the 'story' with your 'life' and the 'stars' with 'Who Is Directly Responsible For My Adverse Circumstances'. And find out all you can about the 'Directors' Behind The Scenes . . . And cause dismal 'sales' at the Ballot 'Box Office' if these Directors and Stars cause the Story of Your Life and Future to go awry.

Simple.

His message was simple and he thought you got it.

But no.

Tell me: how's life been for the last ten years? Was sitting it out worth it?

Again:

A little over two years ago you paid attention for once in generations and you elected someone who told you that the secret to changing your circumstance is simply paying attention, he thanked YOU effusively for Paying Attention . . . and begged you to KEEP paying attention so that He could do his job the way YOU want him to, because he couldn't rely on the establishment to change it's ways, no matter red or blue.

YOU not him were ALWAYS . . ." . . .the ones YOU were waiting for . . .!"

But you seemed to think of it like your disgusting vice called Reality TV, where you could just stop watching and Paying Attention if there wasn't enough 'excitement'. You decided to 'tune out' of your own Lives!

You knee cap the man you sent there by doing this, hobbling him. So just to keep going in the direction you said you wanted he had to capitulate to the Establishment a LOT more than he was supposed to . . . Because you Reality TV stoned fellow American Assholes of mine didn't back him up!

So ignorant you thought the man was some sort of 'the Messiah' due to his inspirational qualities, he could do it all!?  You thought he was a King!??

You didn't listen when he said he needed YOU engaged all the time to do his job the way YOU wanted him to!

The other side now 'eats' your lunch . . . And you got mad at HIM!!??

You didn't do what you were contracted to do, 'we' are for all our 'actions' and results of last fall and before, collectively a bunch of slackers, ingrates and sorry lot of ignorant, unsophisticated idiots, who don't know which way is up . . . In our own lives!

We got mad at him and then we made things worse in the fall last year . . . We still wanted the 'Midas touch' when it never existed.   And further screwed ourselves by 'showing him' our displeasure!

"You can't talk to us like that!?  We'll show you!!"

Fast forward to now:

We are losing what little rights we had rapidly, our money is gone, our personal worth won't even make a blip on the richter scales of wealth . . . And greedy Assholes are brazenly taking control of your lives, spitting on you, stepping on you, gutting you like the hapless fish we have proven ourselves to be.  

And now we're crying out . . . Some of the loudest 'Lamentations' ever; but we still don't get it!

We eat ourselves up, blaming Him again . . . Led Kamikazi-like by the likes of West, Tavis and Firedog Lake and others.  We refuse to give up the fairy tale 'Reality TV' version of our reality.

We keep 'watching', guaranteeing viewers; the cynics and people that really hate you bet against you with impunity and have amassed stunning, consistent payouts . . . they dine on the spoils, washing it down with a bloody Mary whose 'mix' is the blood they drain from you while you sleep or while you're hypnotized by the 'TV'!

A sampling of the channels . . .

On Ch 2009: "Health Care Reform really NOT what you wanted. Too many Death Panels!" - ratings abound!

On Ch 2009, 2010: "He possesses some sort of malevolent power that is dangerous to Your Kids if he addresses them! Run!" - Ratings Bonanza!

On Ch 2009, 2010: "Unemployment insurance is not necessary because folks won't look for work, and it contributes massively to the deficit. Tax cuts for the same folks that tanked the world economy is vital because it'll trickle down to you in the form of a job . . . Somehow. I don't know . . . It just will! ok!?" - the highest rated show in DECADES still going strong!

Ch 2011: "The Previous administration MUST take ALL the credit for offing Bin Laden because, come on: Torture Works!" - Apparently that POV polled very well as they blanketed all the Sunday talk shows there after with denizens of Tribe Cheney and Klan Rumsfeld!

Ch 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011: "More than half of the GOP think Obama isn't born here, or a Muslim Manchurian candidate, or a witch doctor. His wife is a militant black panther, traveling with entourages that cost the taxpayers hundreds if million of dollars on personal trips . . . So there must be something to it. We in the press need to keep entertaining this discussion!" - stop gap ratings payload on an otherwise dead day or week! - but the next episode is so ratings-bountiful it deserves prime time coverage:

"Obama releases Long Form Birth certificate!"

And you loved it folks! So much so there's yet ANOTHER follow up:

"Your education papers need to be examined as well, Obama!"

Whoa boy! Folks can't get enough of this 'entertainment'.

But most of us subscribe to the Plus Package, right?; there is SO much more to see and hear on our 'Disctracta-Box'!

Ironic isn't it that Reality TV is anything BUT that!?

But you can't tell 'US' that . . . Here are some gems:

JFK stole the election from Nixon

Republicans actually care about the deficit, have the highest moral and family values . . . And by George: Never exhibit or exploit racism in their push for power.

And for all of the above there are 'channels' to 'watch' to reinforce the above . . .

. . . Channels that distract us away from the Truth and REAL Reality.

And we're addicted, hooked. This psychosis seems to have been working it's way into all of us for generations it seems. We don't even realize what the rest of the world realizes when they look at us:

"You MUST be collectively crazy!"

We seem, to the world hopped up on some type of Ephedra of Ignorance, with the side effect of complete and utter Bliss and Confidence that what is believed has GOT to be true!

So much so we will and HAVE killed for it!

We are driven insane from all sorts of 'Fear' so much so we don't seem to be able to know what is in our personal and collective best interests anymore.

We cowardly refuse or are unable to look at ourselves in the mirror and see the Truth:

We fucked up.

We've been fucking up for decades . . .

But the Love Affair with the circus, the cynical contrivance that is our 'Reality TV' worship, and our desperate, seemingly single-minded dependence on this 'stimulation' and 'input' just to function . . . Clouds our minds, our vision.

It's eating at our brains to the point where we collectively leak intellectual prowess and substantive sophistication like a sieve! We've become bipolar, 'Sith-like' in that we can only deal in sheer opposites. Nuance is hated in too many circles, both Left and Right . . . Newsflash: Truth and Nuance have been lovers since the dawn of time.

All symptoms of over consumption of National, Political 'Reality TV'.

So we feverishly 'jonesed' and did ourselves in.

It would appear that:

We were NOT the ones we were waiting for it seems . . . But is it too late to be that?

We loved saying that we were, two years ago . . . didn't we?  

But did we mean it?

Is it too late?

I hope not.
