I'm going to keep this one relatively brief.
A Filibuster invokes Cloture, which then needs 60 votes to bypass the Minority Party Objection so that it can move to the MAIN VOTE.
The Press has been reporting FOR YEARS NOW on the vote to overcome Cloture AS IF IT IS THE VOTE ON THE BILL ITSELF!!
That is MASSIVE UNTRUTH and a potentially, politically, CONSEQUENTIAL DISTINCTION, that if made CLEAR TO THE PUBLIC . . .
. . . Filibuster use would precipitously DROP OFF because folks would start losing their SEATS!
The media and the Press are at fault for this deceptive meme that is out there!
To be fair: The Politicians themselves have allowed this deception to stand and/or have stood ‘behind’ it to shield their own ineptitude as well.
The fact of the matter is this: The senate ONLY REQUIRES A SIMPLE MAJORITY JUST LIKE THE HOUSE!
THAT RULE HAS NOT CHANGED!
So when you hear it 'said' that a bill failed to pass the senate and you hear the verbiage of, or some derivation of 'failed to acquire the necessary 60 Votes . . ." . . . please note that THAT is absolute Bollocks!
It failed to overcome a filibuster imposed by the minority party . . . IS THE TRUTH! It's what really went down.
THAT IS WHAT THE PRESS AND MEDIA SHOULD BE SAYING INSTEAD OF OBFUSCATING THE CULPABILITY FOR STAGNANCY IN THE SENATE!!
This media 'blurring' robs us in the Public of a major influx of information, that would enable us to perform our civic duties of political 'check and balance'
The public deserves to know who to hold accountable, as a party and as individuals for the malaises and frustration/exacerbation of pain impugned on us.
We need to be able to know that if we have an election and we vote for things to go a certain way, and things are NOT moving the way we expect . . . we deserve to know with specificity WHY!
Too long have corrupt and paid-for senators hid behind the murky, back-door, poorly-understood/illuminated machinations of Senate procedure and rules . . . we need a national infusion of info and a revelation of just what this Body does, can do and what it is supposed to do.
The Press won't do it it seems . . . So those of us that know need to do it the best we can.
The fact is that the Filibuster has been ABUSED EXCLUSIVELY by Republicans since they lost power in 2007 to this day. Their use of the filibuster has effectively slowed our economical recovery to the crawl that it has been. Various bills aimed at promoting work and investment in the future of this country have died on the Senate Floor. From the President's much touted and economically-verified American Jobs Act, to even The James Zadroga Act have been subject to the strict obstructionism of the Republican Party led by Mitch McConnell.
I dare say that over the last 4 - 6 years the blatant, automatic overuse of this tactic has caused possibly irreparable harm to the US economy, in terms of the ripple effect of not being able to get necessary legislation for regulation, funding, tax reform, research, education, tuition help, military soldier benefits, etc through the congress and be signed into law by the President.
Also please do not listen to the Egalitarian Chorus about 'Both Sides do this . . .!' because that is simply NOT true.

Yesterday the Democrats version to end the Sequester DID attain a majority 51 for and 49 against . . . but still 'failed'.
The Press reported that it 'failed' but NEGLECTED to say WHY it did, while simultaneously quoting the vote totals for and against.
Now doesn't ANYONE ask themselves HOW COME IF A BILL RECEIVED A MAJORITY IN ITS FAVOR . . . THAT IT STILL 'FAILS'?
Doesn't ANYONE??
If they did, if one were INFORMED ABOUT SENATE 'OPERATIONS' . . . You'd want to know WHY something as critical to the economy as averting the Sequester was not 'allowed' to go forward, DESPITE A WILLING MAJORITY.
When you look you probably might say . . .
"Aha! The minority is holding it up!?? I'm about to lose my job because of THAT BASTARD(a specific Senator)! Because of the (Democratic or Republican Party) I'm about to take an economic hit?? Nah! They've got to go . . .!!!"
THAT is the reaction from the public that, at present, the Republicans have been 'insulated' from by the Press/Media in this country.
For their part, the Press is perpetrating a SERIOUS DERELICTION OF NATIONAL DUTY as enshrined in the Constitution of these United States!
Remove that simple political and procedural 'blindfold' from the Public's Eye . . . And Government would start to work like: 'snap!' . . . almost instantly again!
Spread the word about what has been really going on for YEARS NOW far and wide!
